Being multi-designary means working everywhere, collaborating across media and borders

Icehouse originated in a design practice formed years ago in Atlanta, USA. While still paying homage to our humble beginnings, today the name embodies a more loose configuration than a physical office. The involvement is project-oriented and freelance-based — responding to a fascinating diversity of clients and projects. Cross-disciplinary in nature, the “practice” of being multi-designary requires an expansive mindset — sometimes ignored when too specialized. In this approach, human-centered design and design thinking processes are at the very core of the working model. Extending to all aspects of life, if you’re willing, the method on the right is as simple as it is revolutionary.

How to deliver dynamic content.

As a part of overall user needs, finding the best methods for multi-purpose delivery is critical. Many of the publications we work on are meant for a diverse audience, with a variety of needs. Finding a balance of methods to convey the information is part of an overall content management strategy.

I had the pleasure of working with Bjorn on a variety of web and print communication projects at Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences where he served as a consultant. In addition to delivering outstanding print and web solutions, Bjorn advised the website committee working on a major re-conceptualization and design; trained and provided ongoing support for staff members designated as webmasters; and served as liaison with Yale's IT department. Bjorn is extremely professional, personable, reliable and responsive; has an outstanding grasp of communications strategies; and has the unique ability to collegially navigate the interpersonal and organizational complexities of his clients in order to achieve outstanding results. I highly recommend him.

Bjorn is an exceptionally talented book designer. We editorial types TALK about what we THINK and FEEL about an illustrated book project. Bjorn is the definition of the professional graphic designer who not only SHOWS us what we mean, but helps elevate every project by virtue of his unique visual concepts. We have hired him to design three books in as many years. He's great to work with, takes deadlines very seriously, and has a good sense of humor! A pleasure to work with in every way.

I’ve worked with Bjorn on a wide range of projects during the past 20 years. His know-how and experience, be it creative, verbal or technical, have proven to be invaluable. Bjorn’s savvy manor and his conscientiousness to detail and time are outstanding, and very well received by clients and fellow colleagues alike. Due to this, he has played a central role in ensuring effectiveness and high-quality in co-deliveries within web, print and identity.
