"History of the Cyborg: a cyberfeminist retelling of the
relationship between woman and machine" on April 1, 2004
Pattie Belle Hastings will present and discuss pieces and processes from her new body of work, “History of the Cyborg,” which exposes the historical timeline of woman and machine while laying the framework of hysterical/historical “proof.” As with the evening performance of Cyborg Mommy, these new works tell a story that includes the invisible women without whom there would be no technological world. “Women have been mostly left out of the technological timeline (except as consuming units for manufacturing and advertising, or in the case of reproductive technologies - the bodies that carry the babies), so I am excavating the lost history of woman/machine and reintroduce it using art, image, video, sound, and text.” These new works embody hybridity, absurdity, parody, and capitulation in the merging of flesh and technology, woman and machine.
