Awarded silver prize for best children’s illustrated book by the Independent Book Publisher’s Awards in 2008, Scott Gustafson’s work is bold and colorful. At first glance you might think the art provides little room for a designer’s creativity. While we would have enjoyed infusing the pages with even more expressive typography and design, we were able to pursue some interplay between the text and the image – an approach that we believe helps young readers find additional pleasures in the text.
